Locations
The world of Princess and the Journey to Chess City is shaped by the game people play – and how far they are willing to go to play a better one.
Cities
Checker Town
Where the story begins. A struggling community built from fallen checker pieces, where hope is in short supply and most people never leave.
Chess City
The destination. A prosperous city across the sea – but entry requires winning chess tournaments, and visits require passing through security and getting Tagged.
Shogi Island
A nearby island where almost no one plays chess. Shogi rules here, and everyone speaks Japanese.
??? (Unknown City)
Spoken of only in rumors. Said to be the Capital of Chess – and the source of the checker pieces that built Checker Town.
Workplaces
Chess City Elementary
A school inside Chess City where the narrator works as a janitor and eventually teaches chess – getting Tagged at the security checkpoint every single shift.
The Sand Mines
Hard labor on the outskirts. Worked mostly by Checker Town citizens, run by corporate interests, and very difficult to leave.
Other
The Sea
Separates Checker Town from Chess City. Features a Chess Stadium.
