There is a chessboard there where important games are played. What the main character doesn’t know is that the frame can drop out, causing each individual square to bob and float in the middle of the sea

Role in the Story

It is the setting of a great challenge, when playing on the sea chessboard. Throughout the story, it represents the divide between Checker Town and Chess City.
