Oskar cannot play chess. He has tried, repeatedly, with great enthusiasm and consistently poor results. He keeps showing up anyway.

Background

Where Argus is steady, Oskar is chaotic. He joined the crew the way he joins most things – by simply appearing and refusing to leave. Nobody remembers quite when he became a permanent fixture, but the journey would be quieter without him, and quieter is not always better.

Role in the Story

Oskar is the crew’s levity. His willingness to fail loudly and try again makes even the most tense moments breathable. In a story full of ambition and pressure, he is the reminder that showing up matters more than playing it perfectly.
