Listening to: Lazerbeak - Salt and Sea

I think I need to stop and go for a run. I haven’t ran in months, although I do have experience logging long miles, and my old Hokas still fit. Due to Memorial Day Holiday, I had three FULL days off. I did laundry, walked with a friend and Princess, and worked a lot in Blender. It’s Monday, day 3 of 3.

EDIT Three miles! Not bad! 11:30 pace, which is not GOOD, lol, but the body feels good and there is nothing better than the cold shower afterward. I think it is going to be a good summer.

What I worked on:

  • Big blender weekend. Wow, Blender is certainly tricky, but by forcing myself to avoid tutorials and simply try and make a dog, I learned a lot. Weight paints and topology errors and posing issues and WHEW! My armature, which is the skeleton that poses your character, had many flaws in it. My logic was way off so I spent a good day and a half on that alone. Some playoff hockey in the background.
    - — - But, I must say that this is really the most effective way to get better at things. I probably spent eighteen hours over the last three days simply trying to get Princess to jump on a chair, and still didn’t get there. But weight paints are fascinating, and they make sense, and next time it will be easier! If I had instead played around in tutorials, it would have been far less valuable. You can barely remember what you do in tutorials, when you are simply copying steps. the PROBLEM-SOLVING of doing it on your own is the ticket.

What’s next:

  • I will try and complete, in the next few days, a very basic scene, three seconds long, of Princess jumping up to a chair. It will probably look like garbage, but the point is to get through the steps. I need SOME SORT OF proof of concept.
  • I need to make a Princess v_02. I do like how she looks in v_01, honestly, but there are a few obvious issues and probably many more that I am unaware of.

This weekend was tough, and I thought I did not expect the obstacles to be so high, but I feel empowered and ready for more. The process is slowly coming together. Stay tuned
