Ep. 10 - The Pros and Cons of Perfectionism - a Wrens Case Study
Listening to: The Wrens - Everyone Choose Sides
The Meadowlands (2003) is one of my all-time favorite albums, and the story of its creation is quite interesting and inspiring. By their own admission they felt they had a low ceiling as a band (although their second album found some indie success), and were about to break up after releasing their third album, The Meadowlands. Using a shared house, a DIY-mentality, and the better part of a decade, they released a beautiful album. Over-produced as far as one could take it, they found themselves needing to learn the songs and tour, as if they were a cover band playing their own music. Needless to say, they did not produce a fourth album, but The Meadowlands will forever be an important part of my life.
What I worked on:
- Creating a Princess character is harder than I thought, but progress is being made! I am trying to finish the blocking tonight
- Building ears independently, rather than extruding from the head, is the way to go. That took a few hours
- I am going low-poly for my characters. I want a Pokemon/DBZ feel as best as I can, but due to my inability to draw, Blender 3d continues to be my best bet.

What’s next:
- The next four weeks will be work-heavy. Three jobs most workdays, with half of weekends free. So, realistically:
- tracking down an old microphone I have somewhere
- finishing the first build of Princess, the narrator, and maybe a side character or two
- keeping up the blog, and
- improving the website gradually
would feel like a major accomplishment. We’ll see. It’s playoff hockey time, which makes it easier to sit on my computer, but harder to stay focused.
Is that what a Catch 22 is? I forget.
